San Benito man charged in uncle’s beating

SAN BENITO — A 23-year-old San Benito man is being held on $100,000 bail after a beating left his uncle in critical condition.

On Wednesday, a judge charged Christopher Espinoza with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, a 2nd-degree felony, in the Monday beating of his 48-year-old uncle, officials stated in a press release.

At about 3:51 p.m., officers “discovered a large pool of blood in the middle of the roadway” in the 100 block of Lolita Street, the press release states.

At the scene, witnesses told police Espinoza “struck his uncle and knocked him unconscious,” the release states.

“During the course of the investigation, officers were able to obtain evidence that linked Espinoza to the assault,” the release states.

Before officers arrived at the scene, an ambulance had rushed the victim to a hospital, where he remains in “critical condition,” it states.

Police were withholding the victim’s name.
