Ashley Espinosa Castro

A judge sentenced a 23-year-old Alamo woman to a decade in prison Tuesday for driving drunk and killing an 18-year-old.

Ashley Espinosa Castro pleaded guilty to intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury, court records show.

Castro drove drunk on Aug. 11, 2019, when she ran a red light at the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 1015 in Progreso and hit a vehicle, killing Fidencio Enrique Deleon.

According to a probable cause affidavit, she caused the crash while driving back from Mexico after spending the day drinking margaritas.

The crash injured Jose Valenzuela and Norma Pina.

Following her plea on Tuesday, she was taken into custody and booked into the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center.
