With Spring Break slated to begin next week, the Texas Department of Transportation has announced that maintenance work on the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway has been completed.

Maintenance on the bridge deck has been completed and barricades have been removed.

The completion means that all four lanes leading to and from South Padre Island have all reopened.

Many colleges, universities and school districts will be off next week for Spring Break, including the University of Texas schools and schools within the Texas A&M University system.

Texas Southmost College in Brownsville, Texas State Technical College in Harlingen, and South Texas College will also be on Spring Break.

TxDOT crews will be on the causeway Wednesday to remove any possible loose debris, said Ray Pedraza, spokesperson for TxDOT.

The sweeping will be a mobile operation and will not require any lane closures. The work will begin at approximately 9 a.m. and wrap up by the end of the day.

No travel delays are expected during the sweeping of the causeway.
