Staff were allowed to return inside McAllen City Hall after being evacuated Thursday afternoon.

Interim Fire Chief Juan Gloria said the building was cleared due to sewer smell that emanated from a drain on the first floor, as per protocols, but they determined there was no true emergency.

The McAllen Fire Department, McAllen police, and Lone Star Ambulance responded to the situation but there were no injuries.

Gloria said they utilized gas monitors but nothing was detected aside from the sewer smell.

All employees are already back inside while the building continues to be ventilated.
