Huddle House’s Southern dining experience is coming to San Benito.

“We have complete faith that San Benito is staging itself for tremendous growth in the near future, and we are excited to be a small piece of that,” said Luis G. Lopez, owner of development firm L&L Residences LLC.

The new Huddle House restaurant site will be on the south side of I-69 at the South Sam Houston Boulevard exit next door to the new Starbucks.

“It’s an exciting time for San Benito,” said Julian J. Rios, San Benito Economic Development Corp. board president.

Construction is scheduled to begin sometime in late spring or early summer and the restaurant should be open by the end of the year.

“Part of our strategy is to make San Benito a destination city by attracting companies that are new to the area,” said Ricardo Aleman, executive director of the EDC. “We experience a larger economic impact when citizens from neighboring communities dine and shop in San Benito.”

Huddle House, known for its large breakfasts and southern dishes, has been expanding in recent years.

The company has nearly 300 locations in 23 states, with 19 franchises in Texas.

Most of the diners operate from about 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Menu items include breakfasts, which range between $7 and $12 in price, burgers, which run between $8 and $12, and home-style dinners ranging from $10 to $15.
