Mexican national charged in fatal accident near Harlingen

A Mexican national accused of causing a fatal accident that left two people dead and several injured near Harlingen remains incarcerated after failing to post bond, Cameron County jail records reflect.

Juan Jose Bazaldua Sanchez, 25, is charged with two counts of manslaughter. His bond totaled $68,000. He was transported to a Cameron County facility on Jan. 21.

Under Section 19:04 of the Texas Penal Code, a person commits an offense (manslaughter) if he recklessly causes the death of an individual.

According to a Harlingen Police Department news release, on Jan. 20, Bazaldua Sanchez was driving a tractor-trailer rig on the roadway on FM 106 and east of FM 509 when he lost control of the rig, which caused it to jack-knife.

Three other vehicles crashed into the tractor-trailer rig and two people were killed. Pronounced dead at the scene were Angela Galicia, 26, and Jesus Trevino, 65.

Three others were transported to the hospital where they were treated for their injuries.

According to the news release, the case remains under investigation by the police department’s Highway Enforcement Unit.
