Man who went missing from Weslaco eatery accidentally drowned

The 30-year-old man who went missing from the Weslaco Wings and Rings restaurant last week accidentally drowned.

That’s the determination that investigators with the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday afternoon.

Last Tuesday, on Jan. 17, Jesus Angel Romo went missing at approximately 7:18 p.m.

Deputies found his vehicle abandoned later that day south of Sioux Road on Hutto Road by a canal in Donna, according to a release.

The next day, Jan. 18, Weslaco police, along with the Donna and Weslaco fire departments found Romo’s body at approximately 6:17 p.m. just north of Mile 9 North on Goolie Road just outside of Donna.

The sheriff’s office said in the release that there are no signs of trauma or foul play and that the cause and manner of death was an accidental drowning.

“The toxicology report is still pending,” the release stated.
