Christmas tree lighting ceremonies to begin

With the Christmas season upon us, several tree lighting ceremonies will be held in Cameron County to get you in that holiday spirit.

The following is a list of tree lighting ceremonies:

>> Brownsville: La Plaza Terminal Christmas Tree Lighting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30 at the La Plaza MultiModal Terminal, 755 International Blvd.

There will be performances by IDEA Frontier, Cromack and Canales elementary schools and Veterans Memorial High School. There will also be an appearance by Santa Claus.

>> Brownsville: Washington Park Tree Lighting Ceremony at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at Washington Park at 700 E. Madison St.

There will be a movie in the park, live performances, free festivities and an appearance by Santa Claus.

>> Harlingen: The 36th Annual Lighting of the Arroyo at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1 at McKelvey Park, 1401 S. 77 Sunshine Strip.

There will be live performances, artisan vendors, food trucks and photos with Santa Claus.

>> South Padre Island: Mayor Patrick McNulty kicks off the holiday season with the ceremonial lighting of the Christmas Tree at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1 at South Padre Island City Hall.

>> Port Isabel: The 14th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 at Beulah Lee Park on Highway 100.

There will be vendors, performances and an appearance by Santa Claus.
