Edinburg police found nearly two dozen people in the country illegally inside a stash house after speaking with a man who said he was being held there against his will.
That man was later arrested on drug charges.
Authorities arrived in the 1500 block of Thompson Street around 3:30 a.m. Saturday in response to a “man screaming while standing in the street,” Edinburg police said in a news release.
At the scene, police spoke to the 35-year-old man who claimed he was being held against his will at a house located in the 1600 block of Bract Street.
The man was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance after police found he was allegedly in possession of 42 grams of methamphetamine, Lt. Rey Sepulveda said.
When authorities arrived at the house they found 21 people inside the residence who were later taken into custody by Border Patrol.
Asked whether there are any additional charges related to the stash house or if more charges are expected in the future, Sepulveda said “for now no” but that the investigation remains ongoing.
