If you are one of those individuals who likes to start decorating early for Christmas, this weekend’s weather forecast is going to get you in that holiday spirit.

A cold front will push through the Rio Grande Valley Friday afternoon into Friday night bringing much cooler weather to the area.

Saturday’s daytime temperatures will be on the upper 50s to low 60s, and that could be a “shock” to the system after weeks of above normal temperatures, the National Weather Service in Brownsville/Rio Grande Valley reports.

Temperatures are forecast to drop 25 to 35 degrees between Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon, the NWS reports.

Light rain/drizzle will keep things on the chilly side for all of the region.

A line of showers that could possibly bring thunderstorms, damaging winds with gust of around 60 mph, and hail to the Valley is also expected Friday afternoon into Friday night along with the cold front.

There’s an 80% chance of showers Friday night and during the day Saturday in the Lower Valley; a 90% chance of showers Friday night and a 70% chance of showers Saturday around the Harlingen area; and an 80% chance of showers Friday night and 40% chance of showers Saturday in the McAllen area.

The high temperatures on Sunday will be in the mid to upper 60s across the Valley.

The NWS urges everyone to take the following precautions ahead of the cold front’s arrival:

>>Check roofs, siding, etc. for loose items and fasten down said items

>>Protect/tie down/move outdoor ornaments, inflatables, and holiday decorations

>>Be sure to have the cool weather clothing handy this weekend

>>Residents should ensure space heaters or heating systems are in good operating conditions and repair or replace if not operating safely

>>People venturing outdoors should prepare with multiple layers including a waterproof raincoat and hat
