3 Sharyland students arrested after fight caught on video

Achiles Barroso and Angel Saldivar

The McAllen Police Department arrested three students Friday after they allegedly “jumped” and beat another student on campus at Sharyland Pioneer High School.

Law enforcement arrested Alton-resident Achiles Barroso, 17, and Edinburg resident Angel Saldivar, 18, and charged them with assault causing bodily injury.

Both have since been released on $5,000 bonds.

Police also arrested an unnamed juvenile.

A video circulating online shows the alleged assault. Individuals punch the alleged victim till he’s on the ground, and then pummel him with a flurry of punches and kicks, one of them grabbing him and throwing him into a wall at one point.

According to police documents, the alleged victim, a juvenile, texted his mother a little after 2 p.m. Friday saying he’d been “jumped” and police responded to Pioneer about an hour later. The victim told police he passed the three students who were later arrested as he was walking into the CTE building when the assault happened.

According to the victim, he was suddenly attacked, his vision blurring after a blow, stating that “all he saw was black for a few seconds and felt he kept getting punched from all directions” as he covered his face with his arms.

About a minute later, the victim felt the blows stop and he saw two of the assailants run away before another student who was nearby stepped between the victim and the third student.

Head throbbing and light headed, the victim went to the nearest water fountain to wash the blood out of his mouth before being contacted by a school officer and going to the nurse’s office.

Police noticed a variety of minor injuries on the victim, including cuts on the sides of his head, a bruise on his cheek, a cut on the inside of his mouth and redness and scratches on his arms.

Police also viewed the video of the assault taken by an unknown student.

The victim’s mother told police she wanted to press charges on her son’s behalf, the documents said.
