Two-vehicle crash leaves Rio Hondo man dead

Authorities are waiting for results of a blood draw on a woman to see if she was under the influence of alcohol when she allegedly disregarded a stop sign and crashed her car with a truck killing the driver.

Daniel Manuel Olivarez, 25, the truck’s driver, died from the injuries he received in the crash, the Texas Department of Public Safety said Saturday morning.

The crash happened at about 11:17 p.m. Friday on FM 2925 and SH 106 in Rio Hondo.

According to the DPS, a preliminary investigation indicates a white Mitsubishi Mirage, driven by the woman, was traveling south on FM 2925, when the woman disregarded a stop sign at the intersection and collided with Olivarez’s Dodge Ram truck.

The woman was transported to the hospital with “non-incapacitation” injuries, the DPS reports. Olivarez was transported to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, where he died from his injuries.

The DPS said a search warrant for the woman’s blood is in progress as authorities suspect alcohol was involved.
