U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Pharr International Bridge Cargo Facility seized over $1 million in cocaine on Saturday, according to a news release from the federal agency.

Officers encountered a commercial trailer coming from Mexico and referred it to secondary inspection, the release said.

During a “non-invasive” search, officers found 40 packages with about 98 pounds of cocaine hidden within the trailer, according to the release.

The document said the cocaine is worth $1,312,000.

“The Pharr commercial environment continues to be a route smugglers use to try to bring narcotics into the country, but our CBP officers remain vigilant and relied on their experience and all available tools and resources to thwart this smuggling attempt,” Pharr Port Director Carlos Rodriguez said in the release.

The officers seized the narcotics and the tractor trailer.

The case remains under investigation by agents from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations.
