The Cameron County Sheriff’s Department will hold its first annual National Night Out 2022 event Thursday at the sheriff’s department.

The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the rear parking lot of the department, located at 7300 Old Alice Road.

There will be games, food, drinks, music, and prizes, Sheriff Eric Garza said on his Facebook page.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live, according to the NNO website.

The event enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.

Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories and military bases celebrate the night, the NNO states.

Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and much, much more.
