Cameron County Commissioners Court votes to abandon another portion of a road requested by SpaceX

A portion of Del Mar Boulevard near Boca Chica beach will be another road Cameron County Commissioners Court has voted to abandon at the request of SpaceX.

Commissioners Court Tuesday approved abandoning a portion of the boulevard to support spaceport and economic development, the order reads.

In July, Commissioners Court voted to abandon several portions of roads near the Boca Chica launch site that include Annette, Joanna and Remedios roads and Lucero Court to support spaceport and economic development.

At that July 19, Commissioners Court meeting, county engineer Benjamin Worsham that other property owners would still have access to their property, that the county had spent zero funds for maintenance or repair on the streets over the last decade, and that no property owners in the area complained about the proposed abandonments.

In other business, Commissioners Court voted to keep holding its Commissioners Court meetings every other Tuesday, except for the months of July, August, and September, when they will be held once a week during the budget process.

“Every meeting in the month you will hold a regular meeting once a week for the months of July, August and September,” while working on the budget, said Dylbia l. Jeffries Vega, legal counsel for Commissioners Court, verified to the court.
