Alton police searching for man who fired weapon in North Dakota Street area, stole vehicle

Police in Alton are searching for a man suspected of an aggravated robbery Tuesday.

Authorities arrived in the 600 block of North Dakota Street at around 1:39 p.m. in response to an aggravated robbery report.

Police said in a news release that an unknown male suspect broke into two residences in the Alton area in which they believe he stole a weapon.

The suspect is believed to have shot several rounds in the area before stealing a tan 1999 Mazda Protege displaying Texas license plates CX2-N172. After stealing the vehicle he drove northbound on Inspiration Road.

The suspect is believed to be thin and standing around 5 feet, 7 inches tall.
