Edinburg man arrested for allegedly kidnapping, sexually assaulting woman in canal bank

Police arrested an Edinburg man after he allegedly forced a woman into his vehicle and sexually assaulted her in a canal bank in Donna on Sunday, according to a news release by the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.

Victor Alfonso Cereno, 31, was charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault after a woman near a canal bank waved deputies down at 4:38 a.m. Sunday.

The woman said she was walking home when a man she did not know stopped his SUV and forced her inside, the release said.

She told deputies he drove her to a canal bank, sexually assaulted her and subsequently dropped her off at a nearby intersection.

Through the course of the investigation, authorities managed to identify and arrest Cereno as the suspect in the case, according to the release.

Cereno remained jailed Thursday at the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center on $300,000 in bonds.
