McAllen police needs public’s help finding homeless man’s alleged murderer

McAllen police are asking for the public’s help in locating a man who they believe to be responsible for a July 16 stabbing death, authorities said in a news release Monday.

Authorities obtained an arrest warrant for 27-year-old Keith Vladimir Garcia for the alleged murder. Police on Monday also identified the victim as 66-year-old George Chavez, a homeless man in McAllen.

On July 16, at around 1:37 p.m., police responded to a report of a man who was bleeding in the rear of a location and was on the ground, the release said.

Police arrived in the 2200 block of Datepalm Avenue in McAllen regarding an assault where they located Chavez and confirmed he had been stabbed.

According to the report, Chavez died after being transported to a local hospital.

Garcia is described as having a medium complexion and is 6 feet, 1 inch tall, weighing around 150 pounds. He also has black hair, brown eyes and his last known address was in Edinburg.
