A Starship pressure test at the SpaceX Boca Chica launch site Monday afternoon ended with an explosion at the test site, video from LabPadre and others confirmed.

Smoke from the pressure test could be seen as far away as South Padre Island with some visitors saying they heard what sounded like a boom.

A Monitor reporter felt and heard the explosion from a boat that was about 7 miles away from the site. SpaceX founder Elon Musk replied to a tweet stating engine testing was going on at the Boca Chica site Monday afternoon and addressed the issue.

NASASpaceflight tweeted to Musk that there was a fire at the launch site and that it seemed to be dying off. Musk tweeted “Yeah, actually not good. Team is assessing the damage.”

Several members of the SpaceX Boca Chica Group reported hearing the loud booms and said residents reportedly lost windows as a result of the explosion.
