Cameron County Park Rangers continue to investigate an auto-pedestrian incident that left a Brownsville boy dead.

Authorities allege the driver of the truck that struck the young boy was intoxicated.

The 6-year-old boy was half a mile north of the Beach Access No. 5 shoreline when he was run over by a truck Sunday afternoon, Park Rangers said in a media release.

The Park Rangers were flagged down at around 5:22 p.m. in reference to the incident.

According to the release, the boy was airlifted to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen where he was pronounced dead.

Hector Martinez, 53, of Brownsville was identified as the driver of the truck and was arrested and arraigned on one count of intoxication manslaughter. His bond was set at $75,000.

Martinez remained jailed Monday at a Cameron County facility.
