McAllen man indicted on child pornography charges

A man accused of using social media to distribute child sexual abuse material was indicted Tuesday.

Gabriel Alejandro Morales, who was born in 1996, was charged with distribution of child pornography.

Morales was arrested May 24 by the FBI McAllen Resident Agency after FBI agents in Milwaukee tipped them off about an unknown man distributing child porn on a social media application, according to a criminal complaint.

Agents in McAllen executed a search warrant at Morales’ residence, where several items were seized, the complaint said.

Morales told agents that all the child sexual abuse material he possessed was in his silver thumb drive which was found within in a black safe he owned, the complaint states.

Agents confirmed the drive contained about one gigabyte of child pornography, according to the document.

Morales allegedly used the social media application “Kik” under the username of “wakatanga335” to trade and distribute child sexual abuse material with others he befriended on the website Omegle.

If convicted, Morales will be forced to forfeit his cell phone, laptop, tablet and several drives, according to the indictment.

He remains in federal custody and is being held without bond.
