Former Mission City Councilmember Norie Gonzalez Garza is currently leading in the race for Mission mayor with the early and absentee votes placing here ahead of current Mayor Armando O’Caña.
The early and absentee votes have Gonzalez Garza with 3,202 votes, or 56.2% of the votes, while O’Caña currently has 2,496 votes, or 43.8% of the votes, according to unofficial figures from the Hidalgo County elections office.
In the runoff election for Mission city council Place 1, current Council member Jessica Ortega is leading the race with 2,980 of the early and absentee votes, or about 53% of those votes.
Her challenger, Moises “Moy” Iglesias, received 2,641 of the early and absentee votes, or about 47% of the votes.
Just west of Mission, Palmview Mayor Rick Villarreal is leading so far with 733 votes, or about 51% of the votes. Linda Sarabia, the former council member challenging him for mayor, received 697 of the early and absentee votes, or about 49% of the votes.
