Donna resident pleads not guilty to murder charge

Briana Lisset Soria

A 21-year-old Donna resident accused of running over her boyfriend in a jealous rage was arraigned Thursday morning on an indictment charging her with murder.

A Hidalgo County grand jury indicted Briana Lisset Soria on May 5 for allegations that she killed 24-year-old Erick Sanchez on March 19.

She entered a not guilty plea Thursday, court records indicate.

Deputies with the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office arrived around 8:44 a.m. at 1707 Clay St. in rural Edinburg on that day and found Sanchez’s body.

A witness told authorities that Soria had fled the scene after hitting Sanchez with her vehicle, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Soria told investigators she and Sanchez confronted a woman named Maritza Valdez at her home who she believed was cheating on her with Valdez, according to investigators.

During the alleged confrontation, Soria got into a “physical fight” with Valdez.

Investigators said in the affidavit that Sanchez separated the two and then refused to leave with Soria when she returned to her car.

When she saw Sanchez walking away she accelerated the car toward him, according to the affidavit.

During their investigation, deputies said they recovered a surveillance video from a nearby residence that showed a black Chevrolet Camero drive off the road at a high speed.

On Thursday, a judge reduced Soria’s bond from $250,000 to $50,000. After her initial arrest, she was held on a $1 million bond that has since been reduced twice.
