A juvenile has been detained by city and school police after he was found in possession of what turned out to be a toy gun.
The juvenile was taken into custody at about 3 p.m. Friday across the street from Stell Middle School at 1105 E. Los Ebanos Blvd., officials with the Brownsville Independent School District said in a media release.
Officials said the juvenile did not enter the middle school campus.
A text message had been circulating around Wednesday that something was going to happen at the school. A copy of the message was provided to The Brownsville Herald.
“yall be careful tmmr someone treading to shoot our school ‘stell’ pay attention if anything happened take care yall,” the message stated.
In its media release the district said it continues to take all necessary safety measures to keep our students and staff safe and secure as a number one priority.
