AEP Texas said via Twitter that the number of outages in the Valley increased to around 6,880.
There are 2,140 power outages reported in the Mission area, 1,500 in Weslaco, 1,000 in Port Isabel, 850 in Edinburg and 750 in San Benito.
Restoration is estimated to be mostly complete sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., but AEP Texas said this is subject to change.
Heavy rains pounded the Rio Grande Valley on Monday night and into Tuesday morning, leaving thousands without power.
According to AEP Texas, there are about 2,800 outages reported in Hidalgo County as of 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. About 1,700 are in the Mission area and another 1,100 are in Weslaco.
“We are working to restore power as quickly as possible,” AEP officials said on Twitter Tuesday morning.
Restoration times will be updated later this morning, officials added.
The city of Mission said its phone lines at the Mission Police Department were down Tuesday morning, but said 911 calls are not being affected.
“We apologize for the inconvenience and will let you know as soon as they are back up,” officials said. “We appreciate your cooperation and patience while crews work on a fix.
Edinburg city officials said via Facebook on Tuesday that several intersections are without power, including Monte Cristo and Closner, Cano and 12th, Cano and 10th, 12th and McIntyre, Sprague and University, and Veterans and University.
