Flood advisories issued for portions of the Rio Grande Valley

Flood advisories will remain in effect until later this morning for three Rio Grande Valley counties.

The advisories affect Cameron, Hidalgo and Starr counties, according to the National Weather Service in Brownsville/Rio Grande Valley.

The NWS reports Doppler radar show heavy thunderstorms moving across these counties that are bringing additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches. These areas have already received between 2 to 4 inches of rain.

The rain could cause minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent, the NWS reports.

The advisories will end at 10:15 a.m. for Cameron and Hidalgo counties. It will end at 9:15 a.m. for Starr County.

The thunderstorms arrived in the Valley late Monday night and have continued into Tuesday morning.

Power outages were reported in some parts of Brownsville lasting a little more than an hour, as well as in Mission, Weslaco and at Edinburg city intersections.
