A slow week of early voting for the 2022 primary Election runoff ended Friday.

After five days of early voting, there were a total of 13,951 ballots cast in the county, including 11,669 Democratic ballots and 2,282 Republican ballots.

There were 9,757 Democratic ballots submitted in person, and 1,912 Democratic ballots were mailed in. On the Republican side of the aisle, there were 2,114 ballots submitted in person, and 168 ballots mailed in.

Overall, there were a total of 2,080 ballots from either party mailed in.

Friday saw the highest turnout of voters for both parties, with 3,294 Democratic ballots and 713 Republican ballots being submitted.

Voters will now have to wait until election day Tuesday to cast their ballots in some big races from throughout the state, as well as some local races such as the Democratic candidate for U.S. Representative, District 15, and State Senator, District 27.

Ballots for the Democratic Party Primary runoff election will include up to 10 different races. The Republican Party Primary runoff election will have up to seven different races, including that for state attorney general.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day.

Hidalgo County residents will be able to cast their ballots at 28 different locations. Those can be found by visiting the Hidalgo County Elections website.
