Weslaco ISD and the Weslaco Police Department say a social media post circulating online about some sort of sexual assault at Weslaco High is unfounded.

The district’s statement doesn’t specify what allegations it’s addressing.

However, a Change.org petition posted Saturday claims a student was raped at Weslaco High School on Friday.

Asked about that petition, a WISD spokesperson directed The Monitor to the district’s Facebook post.

“We can assure you the post is inaccurate and false,” the post reads.

It says the district has contacted police about the allegations and that it’s contacted Facebook about the post.

“The safety and security of all our students is our number one priority and we are working diligently to resolve the matter,” it said.

Weslaco Police Chief Joel Rivera also described the sexual assault claims as unfounded Saturday.

“Complete fabrication,” he said via text.

The department issued a statement Saturday afternoon saying it had not received any reports from the district or from a victim, but that the department has received “multiple inquiries about allegations of a sexual assault” at the high school circulating on social media.
