COMBES — Officials in Combes have announced a new Love’s Travel Stop and Country Store project will be constructed on 14 acres in the city.

Last year the city issued $4.5 million in bonds which will be used for the necessary infrastructure improvements for the project.

The new travel stop and store will be located at the intersection of I-69E and FM508, also known as Templeton Avenue.

The new travel stop is part of a larger project planned for Combes called the Unity Park Area, which totals 26 acres. Proposals include plans for a hotel, wellness center, retail plazas, shopping, residential and a walking trail with multiple lakes.

“Today is the first announcement of many to come over the next several months regarding our Unity Park Development and Love’s Travel Stop and Country Store,” said Mayor Marco Sanchez.

Included in the plans for the new 24-hour travel stop are Chester Chicken and Godfather restaurants.

Sanchez says he estimates the economic impact of the new travel center, store and restaurants will mean about $5 million annually for the city.
