A Brownsville man died Wednesday after a vehicle he was working on landed on top of him, authorities said in a news release this week.
Cameron County sheriff’s deputies spoke to a neighbor on North Dakota Street at about 5:44 p.m. that day, and learned that the man, a 33-year-old Brownsville resident who authorities have not identified, was working under a vehicle that was suspended by a hydraulic car jack.
The neighbor said he saw the man in the same position about 45 minutes later.
“At this point, the neighbor was concerned and went to check on the subject,” deputies said in the release. “He noticed that he was unresponsive and called 911.”
The sheriff’s office responded and their investigation revealed that the jack supporting the car failed, and the vehicle fell on top of the man, the release stated. Neighbors removed the man from under the car by using another jack, and emergency medical services were called.
The man was pronounced dead by a justice of the peace.
