Alexandro Cruz

An altercation inside a bathroom at a local bar in Edinburg resulted in a double shooting that claimed one man’s life and left another in a hospital, law enforcement authorities said in an affidavit.

Alexandro Cruz, 28, was arrested after police responded to a call in reference to a shooting at the Los Amigos Bar in rural Edinburg, according to the affidavit.

Deputies arrived at the scene around 12:54 a.m., where they found a man with fatal gunshot wounds later identified as Noe Hernandez and another man, Gerardo Lopez, with multiple gunshot wounds.

Lopez was rushed to DHR Health where he is currently in critical condition, the affidavit stated.

During the investigation, authorities obtained a surveillance video that showed a man fleeing the scene running toward Brushline Road. Witnesses identified Cruz as the man in the video.

Around 3:47 a.m., Cruz arrived at DHR Health where he claimed to have participated in the shooting, according to the affidavit.

He told investigators that prior to the shooting, he had been arguing with Hernandez and Lopez in the bathroom of the bar. Authorities said that Cruz waived his rights and admitted to shooting both men.

Cruz was arraigned Tuesday where he was charged with one count of capital murder and one count of attempted murder and is being held on a total of $1.5 million in bonds.
