A shooting at a bar in rural Edinburg early Monday morning has left one man dead and another in the hospital, according to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.

The agency said via Facebook on Monday that deputies responded to a report of gunshots at the Los Amigos Bar in rural Edinburg at 12:55 a.m.. The incident has been reclassified to a homicide.

At the bar, which is south of Ramseyer Road on Brushline Road, deputies found a man with gunshot wounds who was responsive and taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Sheriff J.E. “Eddie” Guerra said on Twitter “the gunshot victim at the hospital is listed in critical but is stable at this time.”

Deputies also found the body of a lifeless man who had been shot to death.

On Monday afternoon, the sheriff’s identified the shooting victim as Noe Hernandez-Maldonado.

The agency also announced that it has charged 28-year-old Alexandro Cruz with murder and one count of attempted murder.

He is in custody and scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon.
