The city of Edinburg is gearing up to host its UFO Festival and Conference this weekend for the ninth annual event.

The festival is scheduled to kick off on Thursday and run until Saturday. The event will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, from 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Thursday’s event will consist of a UFO incident site visit, where community members will learn about the history of a 1966 incident, presented by local paranormal expert, Noe Torres, who wrote about it. The presentation will be followed by a tour of the site and a barbecue.

Tickets for the tour are sold out.

Friday’s festivities will feature tin foil hats while supplies last, laser lights, a lizard/reptilian show, fire dancers, aerial performers, carnival rides, and other attractions. The festival will also include food, art and UFO merchandise vendors.

“We encourage everyone to come out dressed … we are going to take some time on the stage for anyone who would like to showcase and show off their costumes,” said Magdiel Castle, assistant director of arts for the city of Edinburg.

The family friendly festival will take place at the Edinburg City Hall Courtyard located at 415 West University Drive in Edinburg.

The three-day event will come to a close Saturday with a conference that will feature presentations by UFO experts such as Christopher O’Brien, who has investigated various unexplained paranormal activities.

Tickets for the conference can be purchased at Edinburgufo.com/tickets or at the Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library, located at 1906 S. Closner Blvd. in Edinburg, for $20. At the door, tickets are $30.
