Brownsville police have arrested a man accused of walking out of a Home Depot store with a pressure washer that he failed to pay for.
Authorities said Jonathan Sorano is charged with criminal offense robbery.
The incident happened Thursday at the Home Depot store located at 4551 Padre Island Highway.
Investigator Martin Sandoval, spokesman for the Brownsville Police Department, said Sorano entered the store and selected the pressure water. He then exited the business without making an effort to pay for the item.
A Home Depot employee followed Sorano to his truck and began taking pictures of him and the truck, Sandoval said.
Sorano grabbed the pressure washer and walked to a nearby truck where he placed the item in the back of the truck, got inside it, threatened the driver and ordered him to drive off, Sandoval said.
“The driver of the pickup truck did not know who Sorano was and was afraid he was going to get hurt,” Sandoval said. They drove away from the store towards Padre Island Highway.
Sandoval said as Brownsville police officers were investigating the scene, they noticed Sorano had returned to the location to pick up his vehicle.
Sorano was taken into custody without incident and charged accordingly. No one was injured in the incident.
