Six more Hidalgo County residents died due to complications from COVID-19 and another 983 people tested positive, the county reported Friday.
The six people who died were from Edinburg, McAllen, Mission and an undisclosed location. One was in their 60s, while the others were older than 70 years old.
The total number of COVID-related deaths in the county is now at 2,629.
Of the 983 new cases reported Friday, 345 of those were confirmed cases, 634 were probable cases and four were suspected cases. The county is now at 50,791 confirmed cases, 24,808 probable cases and 1,085 suspected cases.
The county also reported there were 201 COVID-19 hospitalizations. Of those patients, 106 were being treated in an intensive care unit.
Cameron County reported five additional COVID-19 deaths and 73 new cases on Friday.
The five deceased individuals included a Brownsville woman in her 60s, a Brownsville woman over 90, a La Feria man in his 50s, a Los Fresnos man in his 60s, and a San Benito woman in her 70s.
The county has now reached a total of 1,486 COVID-related deaths since the onset of the pandemic. With the 73 new cases, the county has now reached 37,239 total cases. Of those, 5,585 are considered active.
