Hidalgo County reported nine residents died due to COVID-19 and another 510 tested positive.
The nine individuals were in their 50s and older. Their deaths bring the total number of fatalities in the county to 2,584 since the start of the pandemic, according to a news release issued by the county Friday.
Of the 510 new cases, 213 were confirmed cases, 264 were probable, and 33 were suspected cases. There are now a total of 49,032 confirmed cases in Hidalgo County, of which 1,961 are considered active.
Additionally, the county reported there were 275 COVID-19 hospitalizations, with 131 of those patients being treated in an intensive care unit.
