The city of McAllen is converting their warming centers into overnight shelters again for Thursday and Friday night.

Beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, both the Las Palmas Community Center and the Palm View Community Center will be open overnight for individuals or families needing shelter, warmth and food, according to a news release issued by the city.

“We encourage everyone who needs warmth, running water and food to take advantage of these shelters for themselves and their families,” said City Manager Roel “Roy” Rodriguez.

Las Palmas Community Center is located at 1921 N. 25th St. and Palm View Community Center is located at 3401 Jordan Road.

The centers will adhere to COVID-19 protocols, will limit the number of people and families to allow social distancing, and visitors will be screened for COVID-19 upon registration.

Additionally, the centers will provide a dinner while snacks and other refreshments will be allowed inside. Pets will not be allowed and individuals are encouraged to bring prescription medications and blankets.
