HARLINGEN — City officials today opened their first COVID-19 community vaccination clinic, turning the new Harlingen Convention Center into drive-thru stations as they planned to administer 1,000 doses to people 65 and older.
From 6 to 10 a.m., nurses had administered 500 doses under the convention center sprawling covered entryway that became a two-lane vaccination center.
From 11 to 3 p.m., they planned to administer the remaining 500 doses.
“For 1,000 doses, it’s going very smoothly,” Josh Ramirez, the city’s public health director, said.
On Thursday, people pre-registered, picking up wristbands showing their identification numbers while assigning half to the morning group and other half to the afternoon group as a move to cut waiting line.
