Pre-registration will begin this afternoon for a COVID-19 community vaccine clinic scheduled for Friday in Donna.
Hidalgo County and the Donna Independent School District will be hosting the vaccine clinic on Friday, but pre-registration is set for Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Bennie LaPrade Stadium located at 2302 Wood Ave.
“Individuals will be directed to the stadium where volunteers will be on hand to help fill out registration forms, verify medical documentation, and hand out wristbands to those who qualify,” the county stated in a news release. “Wristbands are limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.”
Those who qualify for the vaccine will be assigned a time frame and instructed to return on Friday to receive the vaccine.
Officials there will be administering the Moderna vaccine to individuals who fall under the Tier 1A or Tier 1B groups, which include healthcare professionals, anyone 65 years of age and older, and anyone 18 years of age and older with at least one chronic medical condition that puts them at increased risk for severe illness from the virus that causes COVID-19.
Based on previous clinics, officials issued recommendations:
>> Bring pre-registration packet on the day of the clinic
>> Bring ID and proof of medical condition (current medication, a prescription from their doctor)
>> Bring documentation from physician indicating medical condition
>> Bring water and snacks as there may be extended periods of waiting
>> Children 18 and under should not be in the clinic
>> Individuals who are pregnant or lactating, have cancer or are undergoing any immunosuppressive treatment or medication must bring a doctor’s notice allowing them to receive the vaccine
>> Healthcare workers must bring ID badge
>> Documentation from U.S. doctors only
>> Short sleeves are encouraged
