12 COVID deaths, 1,016 new cases reported in Hidalgo County

Hidalgo County reported 12 more COVID-19 related deaths and 1,016 new cases Monday morning.

The deaths include an Alamo man in his 60s, an Edinburg man in his 60s, a McAllen woman and man both over 70, a Mission man in his 50s and a woman over 70 as well as a Pharr man in his 50s, two San Juan women over 70 and a man in his 50s, and a Weslaco man in his 50s and another over 70.

The county death toll was raised to 2,501 with the 12 deaths reported Monday.

Of the 1,016 new cases, 651 were confirmed, 362 were probable and three were suspected. The total number of cases in the county rose to 68,586, of which 46,643 were confirmed, 20,947 were probable and 996 were suspected.

There were 368 people in county hospitals with the virus Monday, of which 152 were in intensive care units.

The county also reported that there were an additional 943 people released from isolation Monday, raising that total to 63,662.

There are 2,423 net active cases in Hidalgo County as of Monday morning.

Hidalgo County has administered a total of 378,791 tests, and 309,352 were negative.

LOWER VALLEY

Cameron County confirmed 340 new cases of the virus and 13 COVID-19 related deaths between Saturday and Monday.

The 13 deaths include three women and a man from Brownsville, one woman and three men from Harlingen, a man from La Feria, and four men from San Benito. The deaths raise the county’s death toll to 1,379.

Of the 340 new COVID-19 cases, 155 were residents of Brownsville, 81 were from Harlingen, and San Benito had 36. These new cases raise the county’s total to 36,076.

The county also reported that 180 people had recovered from the virus, raising that total to 29,732.

Willacy County confirmed 14 new COVID-19 cases Monday. The county now has a total of 2,065 confirmed cases.
