Three more victims of the Tamaulipas homicide that ended in the discovery of 19 bodies and 12 state police officers arrested were recently identified.

The Tamaulipas Attorney General’s Office announced they have confirmed the identity of three more victims, all of whom are from Guatemala.

Adan “C,” Ribaldo D. “J,” and Edgar “L” were among the group found in a vehicle which was lit on fire and left abandoned on a Camargo, Tamaulipas, road on Jan. 22.

The new total of those identified is now seven.

Two other victims, a man and a woman, are also Guatemalan migrants. The two other bodies belong to Mexican nationals from Nuevo Leon and San Luis Potosi.

During the course of the investigation, official reports and interviews from the responding officers appeared to be contradictory. Twelve state officers, a combination of state police and those part of a special state police force, were arrested and charged with homicide, abuse of power, failing to carry out their official duties, and providing false reports to an authority.

Mexican officials will continue working with Guatemalan families to identify the other remains.
