McAllen municipal judge to chair young lawyers association

McAllen Municipal Court Judge Lauren Renee Sepúlveda has been elected chair-elect of the Texas Young Lawyers Association.

She will serve in the position between 2021 and 2022 and will serve as chairwoman from 2022 to 2023, the city of McAllen announced in a news release Monday.

Commonly referred to as the “public service arm” of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Young Lawyers Association works to facilitate the administration of justice, foster respect for the law and advance the role of the legal profession in serving the public.

The city says the association’s programs offer information on legal topics to the general public, directed toward underserved community members and assists lawyers in developing and maintaining their legal practices.

Sepúlveda, a former prosecutor with the Hidalgo County District Attorney’s Office, said she is beyond excited and honored to continue serving the Texas Young Lawyers Association in her new role.

“TYLA is composed of so many incredible servant leaders who do so much good for their communities and the state bar. I am humbled by the trust they have placed in me by electing me to serve as their chairwoman in 2022-2023. TYLA will continue doing the good, challenging, and necessary work to better serve our communities and the State Bar of Texas,” she said in a statement.

Sepúlveda previously served a District 13 director where she represented young lawyers from Starr, Hidalgo, Cameron, Willacy, Kenedy and Kleberg counties on the association’s board of directors. She also has served as the association’s secretary of the Executive Committee.
