McALLEN — Law enforcement are seeking the public’s help in their search for a suspect who threatened a victim at gunpoint.

Multiple agencies conducted a search Thursday evening for Juvenal Garcia Perez, 26, who has a warrant out for his arrest for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to a news release issued by the city of Edinburg.

Edinburg police officers responded to a disturbance at an apartment on the 1700 block of Powell Street at 9 a.m. Investigators say that Garcia Perez showed up to the apartment, threatened a resident of the apartment, pointed a gun at them, and then left.

Then sometime after 6 p.m., police located Garcia Perez’s vehicle, a white Ford Mustang, at Ware Road and Mile 8 ½. Edinburg police, with the help of the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, and troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety, conducted a search of the area but did not locate him.

A Monitor photojournalist witnessed officers setting up a perimeter near the Tres Lagos subdivision on North Ware Road between Mile 8 and Mile 9 at about 7 p.m. Thursday.

Edinburg police spoke to at least one nearby resident and advised the photojournalist on scene that it “might not be the safest place” for her to be.

Officials also deployed the use of a helicopter and a drone and searched the grassy fields near the area.

If anyone sees Garcia Perez or has any information about his whereabouts, police ask that they not approach him but contact their office immediately at (956) 289-7700.
