Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra said deputies are assisting in a search for a suspect that fled from Edinburg police.

McALLEN — Law enforcement personnel from various agencies are currently searching an area near the Tres Lagos subdivision, but have yet to reveal details about their search.
A Monitor photojournalist witnessed officers setting up a perimeter on North Ware Road between Mile 8 and Mile 9 at about 7 p.m. Thursday.
Edinburg police are speaking to at least one nearby resident and advised the photojournalist on scene that it “might not be the safest place” for her to be.
Officials also deployed the use of a helicopter and a drone and are searching the grassy fields near the area.
A Texas Department of Public Safety official referred all media inquiries to the Edinburg Police Department or the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.
Police from Edinburg and McAllen are at the scene, as well as Hidalgo County sheriff’s deputies and DPS troopers.
