Here’s a rundown of Veterans Day ceremonies scheduled in the RGV

Cities in the Rio Grande Valley will be honoring the men and women who served their country on Friday with ceremonies held in observance of Veterans Day, which will be designed to recognize and celebrate local heroes.

McALLEN

The city of McAllen will be hosting a Veterans Day Ceremony at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Texas Veterans War Memorial, located at 3129 Galveston Ave.

The event will feature both the McAllen police and fire honor guards along with various speakers.

“On Veterans Day, we remember those brave men and women who honorably served our great nation,” McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos said in a statement. “It is because of the millions of people who answered that call to serve that America is still the greatest country in the world.”

MISSION

The city of Mission is holding its Veterans Day 5K Heroes Run at the Hike and Bike Trail at 7 a.m. Saturday.

You can park at the Mission Nature Area on South Conway south of Expressway 83 or at Bentsen RGV State Park, located at 2800 S. Bentsen Palm Drive.

WESLACO

The city of Weslaco will observe Veterans Day with a ceremony at Bobby Lackey Stadium from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday.

The guest speaker is Carlos Tamez.

The stadium is located at 784 N. Westgate Drive in Weslaco.

BROWNSVILLE

The city of Brownsville will be hosting a Veterans Day March on Friday that will kick off at 10 a.m. at the H-E-B located at the intersection of Central and Boca Chica boulevards. The march will end at Veterans Park located at 2500 Central Blvd.

Attendees are encouraged to attend the free event dressed in patriotic clothing to honor the veterans in attendance.

United Warriors in Arms who partnered with Valley Regional Medical Center will also be hosting a Veterans Day event that will feature speakers that will honor 28 Brownsville men who lost their lives during the Vietnam War.

The event will run from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Valley Regional Medical Center main lobby. The medical center is located at 100 E. Alton Gloor Blvd. in Brownsville.

The Texas Southmost College Performing Arts Center will be hosting its 10th annual Veterans Day ceremony on Friday at 11 a.m.

SAN BENITO

The Fun-N-Sun RV Resort will be hosting a flag-raising ceremony and salute in San Benito at 10 a.m. Friday for Veterans Day.

Handmade patriotic quilts will be given to veterans during the ceremony.

The resort is located at 1400 Zilock Road in San Benito.
