Mercedes High School resource officers detained and charged a student after posting a threat on social media Monday morning.
According to a news release from police, officers received information regarding the post at about 9:25 a.m.
Investigators did not give details about the alleged threat and did not name the student because of their status as a minor.
“Upon further investigation, the student responsible for creating this post was detained and charged with Exhibition, Use, or Threat of Exhibition or Use of Firearm,” the release said.
The Mercedes Public Safety Department assured parents that at no point during the investigation were there any firearms on school property.
