Power has now been restored to AEP customers in McAllen after the electric company had reported a large-scale outage Monday morning.

AEP Texas is still trying to determine the cause of an outage that affected approximately 15,000 customers in North McAllen.

The power outage occurred in the area of 23rd Street and Violet Avenue, but power was fully restored by 11:09 a.m., according to Omar Lopez, a spokesperson for AEP Texas.

“Our crews are still on the scene. They are determining the cause,” Lopez said Monday afternoon. “We don’t know why the equipment failed in the substation but they are still assessing the situation and they’re probably going to adjust some of the controls in that substation just to make sure that the power stays on.”

There were also smaller outages in Palmhurst and Pharr which affected 12 and four customers, respectively.

Those power outages were due to AEP equipment failure, according to Lopez.
