The Edinburg Police Department said officers responded to DHR Health Monday morning following a call from an unknown person who reported that there was an active shooter.

Edinburg Lt. Rey Sepulveda said McAllen police and the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office also received the call and that all three agencies responded to the hospital about 11 a.m.

When police made contact with DHR Health, Sepulveda said staff there said there was no active shooter.

In a statement, DHR Health said emergency management called for a lockdown of the hospital’s main tower at Dove Street and McColl Road at 11 a.m. after a “credible threat” was called in by an anonymous person through one of the hospital’s main phone lines.

“All patients, employees, and visitors are safe, and there has been no disruption of hospital services,” the statement said. “There is currently no suspicious activity occurring at DHR Health or any of our facilities.”

Edinburg police and Bolt Security Services are currently stationed at all of the hospital’s exits and entrances.

Only patients and one visitor will be allowed to enter after being vetted by security and police.

“At this time, details on the nature of the call will not be disclosed,” the release stated.

DHR Health said the safety of patients, visitors and staff are its highest priority and that it will take all the necessary precautions throughout the day.
