Harlingen police investigate overnight homicide in Arroyo Acres subdivision

Harlingen police are investigating the murder of a 48-year-old man Saturday in the Arroyo Acres subdivision, the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office said via social media.

The victim has been identified as Jose Antonio Torres.

According to police, sheriff’s dispatchers received a call regarding shots fired at about 10:29 p.m. in which the caller stated that moments after they heard the shots, their neighbor knocked on the door.

The caller added that they could see the neighbor bleeding as they laid on the porch but were too afraid to open their door.

According to a sheriff’s news release, Torres lived directly across the street from where his body was found.

Torres had already died from apparent gunshot wounds when police and paramedics arrived on the scene, authorities said.

The investigation is currently ongoing and police are asking the public to call Cameron County Crime Stoppers at (956) 350-5551 if anyone has any information regarding the case.
