A Hidalgo man will be arraigned Thursday afternoon for killing his wife on Tuesday, Hidalgo police said.

Luis Antonio Rivera, 46, will be charged with murder, a first-degree felony, for the death of his wife, Edna Liliana Rivera.

According to a news release, Hidalgo police responded to a domestic disturbance at 2308 Monterrey Street at approximately 12:40 a.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrived, family members said their father had killed their mother.

During the investigation, officers learned that Luis Rivera had fled the scene in his wife’s vehicle, a 2011 silver Ford Focus, after the death, according to the release.

“Hidalgo Police Department Investigators reached out to all local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to collaborate and join all investigative efforts,” the release said. “A manhunt was immediately initiated by HPD, U.S. Marshalls, McAllen Police Department and the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.”

At about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Rio Grande City police managed to locate and apprehend Rivera in their city, the release said.
